Hibiscus is used globally to make drinks like teas, tonics, and punches. In Nigeria, it's used for Zobo, while in Jamaica it's popular in drinks like Jamaica water. Senegal's national drink, Bissap, and Australia's Rosella also feature hibiscus. It’s enjoyed in Mexico, India, and the Philippines, where it's called Gumamela.
Hibiscus leaves add a vibrant tartness and deep red color to teas, syrups, sauces, and desserts. They are rich in antioxidants and often used in traditional drinks like zobo or agua de jamaica. To prepare tea, steep 1–2 teaspoons per cup of boiling water for 5–10 minutes. Add spices like ginger or cloves for extra depth. For culinary use, infuse in water or blend into sauces for a tangy kick. Use sparingly in savory dishes to avoid overpowering acidity.
